Traditional Rumford Fireplace & Brick Chimney

This project shows the construction of a traditional Rumford fireplace and new brick chimney from the foundation upward.

The progression includes the footing, fireplace base, Rumford firebox and smoke chamber, exterior chimney construction and the finished fireplace and chimney.

Traditional Rumford construction: Rumford fireplaces use a tall, shallow firebox and carefully formed throat and smoke chamber to improve radiant heat and draft. This project also required a full masonry chimney built as part of the same installation.
